JRA Bids Farewell To A Legendary Aviator

Ben B. Meier, 78, Jamestown, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Triumph Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Meier was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Devils Lake, N.D., the son of Michael and Ann (Lingor) Meier. He grew up and attended school in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School. He took commercial pilot training with airplane and helicopter ratings. He married Ann Hager on Oct. 27, 1952, in Devils Lake. They moved to Jamestown. He owned and operated Jamestown Aviation from 1963 to the present. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks 995, Eagles, American Legion, Jamestown El Zagel, Shriner Mystics, Royal Order of Jesters, the North Dakota Ag aviation association and many aviation associations. He enjoyed aviation, hunting, fishing, casinos and playing bingo.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Mark (Karen), Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Sherry (Jim) Heyer, and Amy (Tracy) Wallach, both Fargo, and Debby (Darryl) Miedema, Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, Richard (Kathy), Renier, Ore., and Robert (Karen), Devils Lake; four sisters, Marge Graftaas and Bernice (Glen) Bailey, both Spokane, Wash., and Betty Brown and Ilene (Lynn) Johnson, both Butte, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
