Funds Coming To JRAA

Posted on 5/16/2013

The Jamestown Regional Airport Authority is in line to receive more than $500,000 from the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission for improvements to the airport.

Airport Manager Matthew Leitner said the Airport Authority requested $1.36 million for improvements to the airport's beacon and tower, the landing guidance system and taxilanes and apron construction to the part of the airport property where the authority plans to build 10 new public hangars.

Earlier this month the state Aeronautics Commission approved a recommendation from the Air Carrier Grant committee to award $579,715 of those requests. The commission will consider final approval of the funds at its June 6 meeting in Bismarck.

The Airport Authority scheduled a special meeting for June 12 at its regular meeting Wednesday to review any possible changes in the grant award.

"These projects are all planned for this year," Leitner said.

If the $579,715 figure receives final approval from the Commission, Jamestown Regional Airport will have received the most Air Carrier Grant funds of the eight commercial airports in the state that applied for these funds.

Leitner said it was only through the efforts of the area's state legislators, Jamestown Mayor and Airport Authority member Katie Andersen and the Airport Authority itself that the airport will most likely see all of these grant funds.

"I can't thank them enough, the legislators, Mayor Andersen, the authority, they all helped in stating our case to the state Aeronautics Commission," he said.
